Vintage Port
Cockburn's is one of the most recognised names in Port; the Special Reserve ruby is probably one of the most widely distributed Port brands available. In 1815, the year that Wellington defeated Bonaparte at Waterloo, the business was established by Robert Cockburn, who had visited Portugal when serving in Wellington's army.
The 1994 Cockburn performed on a par with the likes of Taylor, Graham and Fonseca. It is a classic port and undoubtedle their best since 1977. There is elegance and masses of concentrated fruits, and a dry and excessively long finish.

Vintage Port
"Ripe, moderately intense, tasty aromas of damp earth, tar, and black fruits are followed by a full-bodied wine with excellent richness, and a firmly delineated personality with good tannin, moderate sweetness, and a long finish." Parker, Wine Advocate 1995.

Vintage Port
The 1970 Cockburn is only just coming into full maturity. It is typical of the house: full-bodied, rich, alcoholic and spirited. The wine is meaty, chocolaty, spicy, full-bodied, big and powerful.
Firm, mature appearance. Mature, meaty, earthy hue. Lovely texture. Still has firm acidity. Good mature flavours. Lots of structure still. Good length and pleasantly mature. 16.5/20 (Wine Doctor November 2004)

Qunita Dos Canais - Single Quinta Vintage Port
Quinta dos Canais is one of the largest and most beautiful properties in the Douro Superior. The Quinta’s name derives from a remarkable system of stone water channels (canais in Portuguese) built in the 19th century to convey the water from the striking Sibio waterfall, which cascades down a massive stone rock face on the steep west hillside of the estate, down to the Quinta’s orange and olive groves. Canais produces some of the Douro’s finest wines and has formed the mainstay of Cockburn’s Vintage Ports for nearly a century.

The Cockburn's Vintage 2007 was mainly sourced from Quinta dos Canais. The Touriga Nacional from this fantastic vineyard was of exceptional quality.
The grapes, picked late (23rd September) and in perfect weather conditions, were at ideal maturity and produced very robust and attractive wines. The blend therefore incorporated 45% of this variety. The other major contributor was the Touriga Franca, also from Canais, which was harvested considerably later on 5th October and benefitted from wonderful warm weather throughout the month of September. The perfect condition and maturity of this variety imparts magnificent floral characters to the blend. …

"Our blenders have been tasting, categorizing and identifying the wines that might go into the final vintage blend for the best part of two years now. Only after the most rigorous selection was the final decision taken; it's been a long, focused, process. This wine is intensely purple in color, with aromas of blackberries and mature plums; full and firm on palate, with a long fruity finish resonating with chocolate overtones. Try with a Stilton Blue and hazelnuts"
-- Jim Reader, Cockburn's Head of Wine Making and General Manager

Quinta do Tua
Austere, plummy, cigar box fruit on the nose, with some sweet molasses sugar. Develops some vegetal notes after a period of aeration. Rich and sweet palate, with more molasses and plums. Tingling alcohol and a good texture. Firm tannins and good acidity suggest this has potential for future development.
